The Indian Youth Congress has suspended 215 office-bearers across eight state units for missing the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The action, ordered by the organisation’s national leadership, was described as a response to organisational indiscipline.

The state-wise figures reported by The Tribune and Hindustan Times are: Madhya Pradesh 60, Gujarat 49, Jharkhand 32, West Bengal 26, Telangana 14, Himachal Pradesh 13, Uttar Pradesh Central 11 and Haryana 10. These figures add up to 215.

The rally, titled ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’, was organised to protest alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision exercise. The suspensions reportedly remain in force until further notice.

How attendance was monitored

Reports said the Youth Congress used its ‘With IYC’ mobile application and barcode scanners at the Minto Road assembly point to monitor attendance. The leadership had directed national-, state- and district-level office-bearers to attend the rally and the march preceding it.
