Corrections and Retractions

We aim to be accurate, and when we are not, we correct the record promptly and transparently.

Reporting an error

To report an error, use the Contact page and include:

  • The link to the article.
  • The specific statement you believe is wrong.
  • Evidence supporting the correction, such as a document, data source or first-hand account.

How we respond

An editor reviews each report against the evidence. If a correction is warranted, we fix the article and add a note at the end explaining what was changed and when. We do not silently change factual content.

Corrections, clarifications and updates

A correction fixes a factual error. A clarification adds context where the original wording could mislead. An update adds new information to a developing story. Each is labelled accordingly. Minor spelling or grammar fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.

Retractions

If a story is found to be fundamentally unreliable, we retract it. The original address will show a retraction notice explaining why, rather than disappearing without explanation.

Removal requests

We do not remove accurate reporting because it is unwelcome. Requests to remove or anonymise content on legal, safety or privacy grounds are considered case by case through our grievance process.
