Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar entered the Ranji Trophy record books with an unbeaten 400 against Nagaland, producing a landmark innings in the 2026–27 competition.
A historic 400 not out
Sutar made 400 not out from 517 deliveries, striking 46 fours and seven sixes. Mizoram reached 581 for nine before declaring their innings at Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Dimapur.
The score places Sutar among a very small group in Indian first-class cricket. He is reported to be only the second batter to score 400 in Ranji Trophy history, after Bhausaheb Nimbalkar’s unbeaten 443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in the 1948–49 season.
Support from the lower order
Sutar’s innings was supported by useful contributions from his teammates, including Jehu Anderson’s 69. A last-wicket stand with Lalrempuia Chhakchhuak added 189 runs, helping Mizoram push their total beyond 580.
The achievement is especially notable because this was only Sutar’s second first-class match, following his move from Mumbai to represent Mizoram. The innings is a major milestone for the batter and a memorable moment for Mizoram cricket.
