The investigation into a robbery and murder linked to a gold jewellery manufacturing company in Rajkot took a dramatic turn after the prime accused was injured during a police weapon-recovery operation. The New Indian Express reported that the accused allegedly fired at officers on October 16, prompting police to return fire.
What police allege
According to the police account cited by the newspaper, the accused led investigators to a location near Gundala village to recover a firearm. Officers alleged that he then produced another concealed weapon and fired at the team. Police said one round was fired in response, injuring him in the leg. No police personnel were reported injured.
The robbery and stolen bullion
The case concerns an October 14 robbery at a gold refinery in Rajkot’s Aji GIDC area in which an employee was shot dead and bullion was stolen. Earlier reporting described the value of the stolen gold and silver as more than ₹1.5 crore. Police said multiple suspects had been arrested and that the stolen consignment had been recovered.
Investigation still matters
The alleged exchange of fire is a separate development within the broader investigation. The police version, recovery records, forensic evidence and any independent witnesses will be relevant to establishing what happened. The accused remains entitled to due process, and allegations should not be treated as a court finding.
The case has raised questions about security during the festive season, when jewellery businesses may transport valuable stock. Businesses commonly rely on secure transport, controlled access, surveillance and coordination with law enforcement, but the effectiveness of specific arrangements in this case will depend on the evidence gathered by investigators.
